22nd October 2009 - Windows 7 launches

So far, Windows 7 looks like a roaring success having "sold more copies in three weeks on pre-order than Vista sold in its first year".

20th October 2009 - New PC buyers will apparently wait to see what Windows 7 is like

In a recent survey by online electronics retailer Retrovo, 47% of respondents said they'll wait to move to Windows 7 until the early reviews are in. 12% will definitely upgrade, but 38% will definitely not. The survey also revealed many users are holding off on buying a new PC until Windows 7 is available, with 39% of respondents who intend to buy a new computer this year saying they are waiting for Windows 7.

19th October 2009 - 2 days to Windows 7

On the 22nd October, Microsoft's newest operating system, Windows 7, goes on sale. We've tested Qlockwork on the beta version of Windows 7 and it appears to be a decent product, which addresses many of the problems with Vista such as slowness and instability. Microsoft have a lot riding on Windows 7 - 3 years after it's release, Vista still has only a 19% market share.

Qlockwork is fully supported on both Vista and Windows 7.

1st October 2009 - 25 Years of PowerPoint

This year is 25 years since the creation of PowerPoint. Today, an estimated 30 million PowerPoint presentations are given every day, which makes "being in a PowerPoint presentation" one of the most common (and dullest?) business activities in the western world. Unfortunately, PowerPoint presentations are often not a great way to present information and, let's face it, they can be pretty excruciating. PowerPoint guru Michael Hyatt's tip for effective PowerPoint presentations is "Don't give PowerPoint center stage" - remember that you are the star of your presentation, not PowerPoint. You and your audience should be looking at one another. Sounds nice though daunting; I guess that's why we tend to talk to the slides ;-)

24th August 2009 - Stanford University says multitasking may be bad for your productivity

Recently published research from Stanford University has suggested that multi-taskers are worse than non multitaskers at completing tasks. In university trials, multi-taskers consistently did less well at tests of ignoring irrelevant information, memory and, ironically, ability to switch between tasks (full story from the BBC). Perhaps they need the help of some time tracking software?
